Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect in the first session? I call this first session a client intake interview—it's a chance for us to get to know each other. We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, your background, and what you'd like to work on. It’s also an opportunity for you to ask questions and see if we’re a good fit. The initial interview session(s) might take an hour or two—or even more than one session. Because this process is different for each individual, I offer as much space as needed for both of us to decide how to move forward.
Who do you specialize in providing therapy for?I offer psychotherapy, process group psychotherapy, and intensive sessions for individuals ages 20+. At this time, I do not offer therapy services for: family, couples, children or adolescents, or court appointed/required therapy.
How often will we meet, and how long are sessions? Sessions typically last 53–55 minutes and are held once a week. Depending on your needs, we can adjust the frequency over time. Please refer to my website for a complete list of services offered.
Is therapy confidential? Yes—confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. There are some legal exceptions (such as concerns about safety or abuse), which I’ll explain in our first session so you fully understand your rights.
How long overall should I plan to be in therapy? The length of therapy depends on your goals. Some clients see improvement within the first 6 months to a year, while others engage in longer-term work. We’ll check in regularly to ensure therapy continues to meet your evolving needs.
What issues do you work with? I support individuals working through a variety of concerns, including: • Anxiety • Depression • Trauma • Relationship struggles • Life transitions • Self-identity and self-worth • Intimacy and autonomy • Healthy boundaries • Developing emotionally mature relationships
f you’re unsure whether I can help, please feel free to reach out.
What kinds of therapy methods or techniques do you typically use?My approach is direct, transparent, and empathetic. I draw from several therapeutic models, including: • Internal Family Systems (IFS) • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) • Psychodynamic Therapy • Client-Centered Therapy • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) I am also a Certified Group Psychotherapist and deeply integrate group therapy methods and principles into my practice. Most importantly, therapy is always tailored to fit your unique personality, goals, and life experiences.
What if I feel uncomfortable during therapy? It’s completely normal to feel uncertain or vulnerable at times. Therapy is a collaborative space where your emotional safety matters. I welcome and encourage open conversations about anything that feels difficult or uncomfortable.
Do you offer virtual or in-person sessions? I prefer to begin therapy in person so we can build a steady and trusting therapeutic relationship. After a foundation has been established, we can explore a hybrid format combining in-person and virtual sessions. Together, we’ll decide what format best supports your goals.
What are your fees? Do you accept insurance? Please click on the 'Therapy Services & Costs' button on my profile for a list of services and fees. I am in-network for Aetna, Meritain, and Optum - UnitedHealth. I am registered with Thrizer for my out-of-network clients and can also provide a superbill to help with reimbursement. Joining in group therapy can also be a cost-effective way to connect and work through relationship challenges.
What is your cancellation policy? Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice may be subject to a fee.
How will I know if therapy is helping? You may begin to notice changes in how you feel, think, or respond to situations. Others—friends, family, even coworkers—may observe changes in your behavior or mindset as well. We’ll regularly check in to assess your progress and adjust our work as needed.
